Housewarming Gifts for Starter Homes and Apartments

6 May

Housewarming Gift TipsIf you have a friend or relative moving into a new starter home or small apartment, it’s customary to bring a special gift to celebrate their new move. A very nice well thought out housewarming gift can certainly help them turn a house into a home.

What are some of the best tips to picking that perfect housewarming gift?  Remember to keep in mind the type of space they are moving into and also what type of person they are in terms of what they like, their style and their hobbies.   If they are moving to a small apartment or small new home, or a retired individual moving into an independent living facility, they will likely be short on space. Someone moving to a small place needs small essentials that will be of use and not take up extra space.

Below are Ideas for Gift Ideas For Smaller Apartments, Starter Homes, Dorm Rooms, Independent Living Apartments or Retirement Homes.

Little gift ideas – literally – are the way to go for the new home owner in a smaller space.  Square footage is at a premium but that should not stop you from finding something special as a gift.  Remember, it might be small, but it’s still a new space and they are still celebrating their next phase in life.  Giving a gift they can use that is both compact, functional and needed is the key here.

If they are just starting out in life, their needs and likes might be different than someone moving into an independent living location who already generally has a big collection of things.  But, regardless, just keep in mind the person and what you think would be of best use for them.  Some smaller in size gift ideas along this line include:

  • a new pretty doormat
  • a wind chime
  • a really nice wine bottle opener (with a nice bottle of wine with it!)
  • a gift card for a nearby restaurant
  • a personalized self-inking stamper with their new address
  • a nice set of personalized address labels (since they’ve just moved they’ll need them!)
  • printed luggage tags featuring their new contact information
  • a nice box of stationery with their new address printed on the envelopes
  • a pretty set of new notepads or post-its to keep in the kitchen or bedroom for quick notes or reminders or lists
  • a pretty little vase with some flowers in it
  • a small houseplant (if they are someone with a green thumb)
  • a gorgeous little candy dish and some candy
  • quality personalized guest towels for a powder room
  • personalized playing cards, a nice splurge-type idea for older people who love bridge and other card games

Bigger ticket gift ideas (but still small in size) for someone you know very well, such as for your adult-child moving into a new home or your parent moving into a retirement location, are suggested below.  For some of these type of gifts, talk to the recipient(s) and be sure that they would like (or need) the gift item before you invest. If they do, sometimes it’s nice to go shopping with them and let them help you pick them out. Some of these gift ideas include:

  • a new vacuum cleaner
  • a dust buster
  • a new set of everyday dishes
  • bathroom accessories such as a new shower curtain, garbage can, tissue box, and soap dispenser
  • a new set of pots and pans
  • a slow cooker
  • a toaster oven
  • a new TV for their bedroom or kitchen
  • a new comforter set
  • a grill for their patio
  • a crystal vase with fresh flowers
  • a cleaning service to help them get the home ready for move-in day
  • sending over a painting crew or helping them paint their new space
  • an outdoor planter filled with flowers to put by their front door, in backyard, or on a balcony
  • a great set of quality wooden hangers for guest’s coats to be used in their front hall closet

Gifting Rest & Relaxation

It can be stressful moving into a new home and giving the gift of Rest & Relaxation can certainly be appreciated.  If you think the new homeowner can use a little break, consider a gift that will provide a bit of calmness and serenity.   These sort of gift ideas might include:

  • beautiful candles
  • aromatherapy items with essential oils
  • a gift certificate for a massage at a nice spa
  • a gift certificate for a mani and pedi at a spa they like
  • a gift certificate to a movie
  • gift cards for a dinner at a nearby restaurant
  • yoga mat
  • bath pillow, sea salts, nice bath gels or soaps and lotions

The gift of your time and help can also be something very helpful such as helping them unpack their boxes, lining their kitchen drawers for them and setting up their kitchen, and/or help watching their children (if they have them) during move in day.

Few things are more exciting than moving into a new home!  Starter homes and apartments are milestones and can be a very special step in an individual’s life.  Make sure you let them know you are there to help, love and support them throughout the process and celebrate this milestone with your time and special housewarming gifts.

Guest Towels for Parties and for The Home

28 Jan

Guest TowelsPersonalized Guest Towels are a great option for many occasions.  I love putting them out on buffets as they are a perfect size whether it’s for a brunch, luncheon or dinner.  I also use them when I set a nice table for a party or holiday.  They add some style and sophistication and of course they are disposable so the clean up is a breeze.

I also love to put Guest Towels out in my powder room for guests to use.  They are pretty and people love using them and it’s so much nicer to use a clean towel to dry hands and then toss out.  They elevate the powder room’s style too and are an affordable luxury.  I also like to give Guest Towels to friends and family for housewarming gifts.  They are usually appreciated and make for a special present.

Bathroom Guest TowelsGuest Towels come in many styles and materials so it’s easy to find just a perfect color, pattern or style for your home, gift or event.  These folded disposables in a tall rectangular size and are available in quality 3-ply solid colors and many specialty materials too.  Their size makes their use very easy when setting a table, buffet or stocking in a powder room.  If you are planning an event at an outside venue, if there is a dedicated washroom for guests they are great to leave in there too.

Some options for Guest Towels are the Solid color 3-plys available in a host of colors, our Linen Like Guest Towels  are air-laid paper and have the look of linen with a thicker, plusher, more luxe feel. The DeVille white guest towels offer a superior finish and absorbency.  The Carte Guest Towels look very fancy and super impressive as they feature a filigree pattern embossed into the napkin creating a unique and impressive design.

For a burst of style and sophistication, there are  Capari Guest Towels.  Thee classic styles are created to achieve a sense of integrity and flair and many patterns are inspired by renowned museum collections. A Guest Towel by Caspari will make a perfect statement for any event.

Then there are the silky feeling Masslinn Guest Towels which add a touch of luxury and made of 100% rayon fibers and have a very soft feel to the touch. The Moire Guest Towels are very pretty too as they feature a subtle wavy pattern within the color.

Guest Towels are perfect for home entertaining, rehearsal dinners, bridal luncheons, anniversary and birthday parties, Christenings, graduations and Christmas celebration.  They are also fabulous at luncheons, a cocktail buffet or a dinner party.  If you are hosting Thanksgiving, Passover dinner, Easter brunch or other celebration, Guest Towels work great setting the table.  Enjoy the sophisticated look and feel at affordable prices with our perfectly printed guest towels.

The A, B, C’s of Luggage Tags

Have you ever wondered the best way to personalize luggage tags?  There is the typical “name, address and phone number” answer but it really depends on how the tags are being used and who will be using them to know what’s appropriate.

Of course luggage tags can be used for suitcases, which is the traditional purpose.  But some other uses include identification of gym bags, backpacks, diaper bags, camp bags, athletic bags, computer bags, ski bags, golf bags, tote bags, musical instrument cases, brief cases and more.  Deciding which type of tag to choose and what information to include depends on the purpose of the tags.

For adults using luggage tags for suitcases while traveling and for other bags being carried by adults, the printed information should primarily include the following information:

(1) Your full name or at least your last name;

(2) A mobile phone number.  If your luggage is lost, the mobile number will be the easiest way to reach you. If there is no mobile number available use a home number;

(3) An email address.  Depending how security-conscious you are, you may consider skipping your primary personal e-mail address and setting up secondary e-mail just for your travel purposes;

(4) An alternate phone number. Consider listing an extended family member’s number who can assist if you are on the road.

Remember, since your luggage is out of your hands when you do short or long domestic or international travel, you do not want to publicize too much personal information. A number of experts suggest not listing a home address, as it can easily alert burglars that you are away from home when they see you traveling.  And it’s very infrequent that anyone would ship or deliver a lost suitcase to your home without contacting you first.

For items being used by teens or adults, the luggage tag should include a full name (or at least last name) and a home or mobile phone number.  If the tag is being used on a young child’s bag, for security reasons, consider simply an imprint such as: “Call (123) 456-7890 if Found” without a name or other information at all to prevent any issues with strangers.

If you wonder what type of luggage tags are best, we would suggest adding brightly colored luggage tag if you use a standard black suitcase.  This will make finding your suitcase much easier as there are usually so many bags that look the same when traveling.  A unique tag might even prevent the wrong party from picking up your suitcase thinking it was theirs.

Luggage tags are a practical and stylish way to make identifying bags easily.  When selecting a luggage tag you might notice different materials, such as laminated, brass, leather, or acrylic.  They are all very strong and useful.  So simply determine a style you feel the user will enjoy.  There are designs and materials suitable for everything from executive travel to a diaper bag!

Best wishes,
