Why Handwriting is Important

17 Jun

Someone at work just shared an article with me about the importance of handwriting.  I’ve always felt strongly that it is in fact important.  I remember being in college and writing down my notes during a lecture. There is science showing that writing your notes down actually helps us to remember the information better than just reading it.  A new study is showing that handwriting helps activate a part of our brain for learning.

What’s Lost as Handwriting Fades,” by New York Times writer Maria Konnikova, talks about the studies associated with these findings.  I found the article fascinating and worth reading as messages are being sent more and more through electronic devices.  It also reminds me to journal my thoughts and write that thank you card.  There is science proving it’s good for my brain!

How do you feel about handwriting?  Do you think it’s important?

Passing Notes in Class

2 May

Remember passing notes in class?  Being distracted and writing your friend a note about a certain boy or maybe writing a note to your crush asking them if they liked you?  Seems like the days of passing notes are behind us as texting takes it’s place.  I personally still love the idea of a written note.  Maybe you’re not the type of person who enjoys writing long letters, but anyone can write a quick note.  They make such an impression that you took a moment to say “hello” and actually used a writing instrument that doesn’t involve a keyboard or mobile device.

Perhaps that’s why notepads are one of our bestsellers.  They’re an easy and personalized way to write a quick note, grocery list, note for the babysitter, etc.  I’ve picked a few of my favorites to share.

I hope you feel inspired to write someone you care about a quick note.  Just don’t get caught passing the note during class.
