Over the weekend, we celebrated my twin daughters first communion. My son also happened to make his confirmation so we had an opportunity to celebrate two big events at once! We hosted a party for family and close friends and I really enjoyed working on all the fun little touches to make the day special. I was inspired a lot by Pinterest and the great ideas you can find on there. I wanted to share some of my ideas for those of you planning a first communion or confirmation party. A lot of these ideas could be used for a bridal shower, a baby shower, graduation, birthday party … you get the idea.
To set the tone, I made this DIY banner to hang on my fireplace. I bought a pack of chalkboard banners and used a stencil. I used something called a permanent chalkboard marker to fill in the letters. I thought it added a very “Pinterest” looking accent!
I love flowers and found these galvanized tins with tulips in them at my local hardware store. I simply added some Spanish Moss and put them at each table for dinner. You can give them to Godparents to take home, too!
I used this gorgeous First Communion Invitation from The Stationery Studio. I loved the fresh, Spring look of the invite! I also used these first communion napkins for appetizers, dessert and the drink station. I must have heard “Wow, these napkins are great!” at least 5 times that evening.
Now these handpainted chalices are something my daughters did with their first communion class. But I thought they would be a great idea for any child making their first communion to do with their family by visiting your local clay painting store. They make wonderful decorations during the party and are a great keepsake from their special day.
I love giving away favors at the end of a party! These custom cookies were made at a local bakery. Everyone got to take home one after the party. You can always add personalized gift tags to make them even more special!
And the best part of the day? Being able to celebrate with their Great Grandpa who will be 90 this year!
If you have some great party ideas, feel free to share them in the comments. I love to hear new ideas or if you plan to use some of the ones I shared from my party.
