Take a Break with Spring Travel Plans

2 Feb

jan-travel-001This is a great time of year to make some travel plans for Spring.  Are you planning any travel?  Some like to go to warm climates and chill in the sun and some like to go to colder climates and enjoy outdoor activities like skiing and snowmobiling.  If you can’t get away on a bigger trip, it’s also a great time to take a weekend car trip just for a change of scenery and a little break if you can.  There are so many pretty and interesting things to see and do close to home for so many of us.

jan-travel-002When traveling it’s always fun to have a wonderful big travel bag with you where you can stuff in your purse, a book, water bottle and a scarf and other essentials. I love the tranquil seafoam green color of the leather tote bag, zip case and wallet. The color makes me feel like I am at the beach or in just some warm tropical locale.

jan-travel-003If you are flying, we have new pretty silver luggage tags, passport covers, silk cosmetic bags and even a big new black weekend canvas bag to help you both organize your luggage in style.

And I always travel with a big summer weight or winter weight pashmina which is handy for a layer of warmth on a plane or in a car and is also great as a great accent over a shirt or sweater for day or night.  No matter what type of traveler you are, whether you like to travel light and easy or if you can’t decide what you need to bring so you pack your whole closet, it’s nice to  have some new fresh travel accessories to bring with you.

What are some of your favorite spring trips?  Mexico with your friends?  Seattle with your family?  Los Angeles or Florida to see the studio tours and theme parks?  Are there some little towns around the southwest or midwest you love to visit, a diner you just love to go to, some museums or galleries you enjoy?  Or do you prefer to do outdoor trips like horseback riding at a ranch, walking around a big city to see all the stores and theater, or finding a very small town somewhere and just browsing and getting lost in all the quaint little places to visit?

jan-travel-005Are you reading anything special these days?  Let me know if you’ve heard of any good books.  I just finished Amy Poehler’s Yes Please, Tina Fey’s Bossypants and Barbara Walter’s Audition.  I’m also in the middle of a book about the history of Nordstroms.  It’s fun to get involved in a book and relax, maybe see a movie or two, get some fresh air and take a break from cooking and your daily grind.  I also enjoy not sitting at the computer all day for a little bit!

Since we are half way through winter at this point, March and April is a popular get-away time of year and it’s really just around the corner.  So plan something special for you and your family or ask a friend or two to join you on a little break.  It’s wonderful to have something big or small to look forward to.

Happy travels,

Renee

February is the month of love and a perfect time to write more love notes! You can really make someone’s day with a few simple sentences expressing your feelings. And for the perfect canvas, pick up a great box of personalized stationery. Whether you are writing a little note to your husband, boyfriend, your son or daughter or your best friend, it’s really easier than you think. And they’ll love to save them and re-read them over the years. It’s not about perfection in letter writing, it’s about sharing a feeling, a memory, a dream.

So what that many others are writing electronically. Those come and go. Putting pen to paper is long lasting. It’s really ok to write a real note! You can mail it or give it in person, leave it on a desk in a place they will find it, pack it in a lunch, or pop it in the refrigerator so they will see it in the morning. No matter what you say, you won’t go wrong. It can be long or short, funny or serious, romantic or casual. What’s most important is that it is in your own words and it sounds like you. Be yourself!

February is a wonderful time to reconnect after the holidays. Plan a special dinner date, a lunch or a breakfast. Enjoy the company of those you love and those you want to get to know better. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, it’s time to get planning, and it’s time to get writing! Maybe give your special love a box of stationery so they can write you back!

Happy love letter writing to you!

Best wishes,

Renee

2016 New Year Resolutions

12 Jan

jan-2016-001Did you make any New Years resolutions?  About 75% of people nationally make resolutions and by the end of January they begin to fade away.  Some of the most common resolutions we’ve all heard are to lose weight, spend less and save more money, quit smoking, stay organized and spend more time with family.

I have three resolutions this year.  My first is to wear more patterns.  I’m such a solid person.  I like the classic and the simple.  Jewel colors mostly.  And black.  Well, it’s just so hard to commit to a pattern.  But I’m trying … in clothing, stationery, home decor and more.  I mean, why not?  Yes, I’m really going to try.

My second is to improve my stir fry skills.  Seriously.  It’s such a great, quick dinner.  But I have to figure out how to create tasty sauces that are on the healthy side.  No more jar sauces for me in 2016.

For my third resolution, inspiration came after watching a Ted Talk featuring Amy Cuddy recently.  The talk was featured on Sunday Morning on CBS-TV in December which is where I was introduced to it.  Have you heard it yet?  It’s really fabulous.  She discusses Body language and how it affects how others see us.  And, she explains, it may also change how we see ourselves.  Amy Cuddy is a Social psychologist and she shows how “power posing” — standing in a posture of confidence, even when we don’t feel confident — can affect testosterone and cortisol levels in the brain, and might even have an impact on our chances for success.

“We make sweeping judgments and inferences from body language, and those judgments can predict really meaningful life outcomes, like who we hire or promote, who we ask out on a date.”  And Cuddy notes, “When you pretend to be powerful, you are more likely to actually feel powerful.”  If you have a chance, watch the segment.  I think it’s important and can positively affect your life.  As Ms. Cuddy would say, “stand tall and remember who you are!”

So stand tall.  And wear patterns.  And enjoy some stir fry.  Happy 2016!

Best wishes,

Renee
