Easter Egg Decorating Idea

It’s that time of year again for coloring Easter eggs!  Every year we get together with friends to have a causal lunch and decorate eggs.  Even as my kids get older, they still look forward to doing this.  This year, their friends thought outside of the “box” (pun intended) and looked up a fun new way to decorate eggs on YouTube.  I wanted to share their idea with you (as well as some basic egg coloring 101) if you happen to be coloring eggs today or tomorrow.

Getting readyGetting ready!  Use food coloring and 1 tablespoon vinegar per cup.  Then add warm water before putting eggs in the cups.   Submerge eggs in cups for at least a minute each.  For more fun, try the Cool Whip egg dying technique!

cool whip

Start with a tub of Cool Whip.  Put it in a casserole dish or any type of pan where you can spread it out.

Dye in cool whipOnce the Cool Whip is spread out, add drops of food dye all over.

Cool whip swirl

Swirl the Cool Whip all around … let the colors mix!

Place eggs in the Cool Whip mixture and cover them under the mixture completely.  Let sit on the counter for 30 minutes.

Rinse the eggs off under water after 30 minutes.  They turn out with cool marbled effects like a watercolor painting.  A fun way to dye eggs!

Eggs

Here are our eggs after we finished!  We did a mix of traditional egg dying and the Cool Whip technique.  What fun ways do you decorate eggs for Easter?   Share in the comments below … I would love to hear what you and your family do!
